President Ruto Denies Abductions During Protests, Urges Families to Report Missing Kin
President William Ruto has firmly denied allegations that security agencies were involved in any abductions during the recent anti-government protests. These remarks come as some families continue to search for their loved ones, who mysteriously vanished during the unrest.
Reports have circulated about several incidents where individuals were allegedly abducted in broad daylight by armed men in civilian attire. Addressing these concerns during a Town Hall meeting in Kisumu on Thursday 29/8/2024 , President Ruto reiterated his commitment to combating abductions and extrajudicial killings—an assurance he made upon taking office.
The President expressed his unawareness of any abductions linked to the protests and urged families with missing relatives to come forward and report their cases to the government. He specifically asked affected families to provide the names of their missing loved ones to Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, who was also present.
The President also emphasized that no Kenyan should be subjected to inhumane treatment because of their political beliefs, reaffirming the constitutional right to association.This assurance by the President is aimed at dispelling growing concerns and reinforcing his administration's commitment to protecting human rights in the country.
