Police Salary Increase Announced by NPSC Chairperson

On Thursday, NPSC Chairperson Eliud Kinuthia revealed that police constables will soon see a salary increase from Ksh21,645 to Ksh25,645. This adjustment follows discussions with the National Police Service (NPS) and a recommendation by Acting Inspector General Masengeli for salary and promotion enhancements for officers.

The revised salary structure now includes a minimum gross monthly salary of Ksh50,145 for the most experienced constables, which encompasses all allowances. Constables who have served for over 20 years and progressed through all salary grades can now earn up to Ksh69,640. Additionally, police officers engaged in peacekeeping missions will also benefit from similar salary adjustments.

Senior Assistant Inspectors will experience a salary boost of Ksh21,026, raising their pay from Ksh200,899 to Ksh221,915. Officers in the highest salary bracket, which includes those who have reached the top of the twenty-notch structure, will earn between Ksh310,725 and Ksh409,365.

Chairperson Kinuthia highlighted that incremental salary increases are awarded annually. The commission has responded to concerns about stagnation among long-serving officers, many of whom with over 30 years of service have faced stagnation despite their exemplary records. To address these issues, the commission has proposed merit-based promotions for officers aged 53 to 59 who have no outstanding disciplinary issues.
