 All time King of Dancehall artist is finally afree man after serving a 13 year jail term over a murder conviction.

Jamaica’s Court of Appeal decided to free the artist against a retrial for the murder, citing his deteriorating health and the psychological and financial impact on him.

• His defense noted his severe condition, including a swollen neck and face,which has worsened over the years. 
• His real name is Adidja Palmer
• Aged 48 in 2024 (born in 1976)
• Started his career as a teenager in 1993.
• He is a father of 7,  three of those are with Tanesha 'Shorty' Johnson and four are with other women.
• Sentenced to life in 2014 for the killing of Clive "Lizard" Williams.
•  His murder conviction was overturned in March 2024.
• His habeas corpus application (protects against unlawful and indefinite imprisonment) was denied on May 30, 2024.

The court of appeal ruled unanimously to free Kartel and his co-accused, Shawn ‘Storm Storm’ Campbell’ Andre St John, and Kahira Jones.

The decision was fueled by several factors, including the unavailability of witnesses and trial exhibits, as well as Kartel’s declining health.
