Lawmakers not happy with High Court Declaring NG -CDF Unconstitutional.

The High Court has ruled the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) unconstitutional. In a verdict issued by a bench of three judges—Justices Kanyi Kimondo, Mugure Thande, and Roselyne Aburili—it was determined that the NG-CDF violates constitutional provisions. Members of Parliament have been granted roughly two years to finalize ongoing projects in their coustituencies before the fund is abolished. Originally established in 2003 under President Mwai Kibaki’s government.

Lawmakers have voiced their apprehensions regarding the ruling, expressing fears that it could hinder advancements in local infrastructure development if the decision stands. In light of the ruling, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has scheduled a meeting with the leadership of the House, including both Majority and Minority party leaders, to deliberate on potential next steps. One option on the table is to file an appeal to seek the fund’s continuation.
