Gilbert Masengeli Challenges Six-Month Sentence in High Court Appeal

Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has filed an appeal at the High Court challenging a six-month prison sentence handed down by Justice Lawrence Mugambi. In his appeal to the Appellate Court, Masengeli claimed that the ruling was made without properly considering the application he had previously submitted. He criticized Justice Mugambi for issuing the sentence despite his earlier statement that the missing individuals were not in police custody. Additionally, Masengeli argued that the court erred in finding him in contempt, as he had sent representatives to appear on his behalf.Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo condemned Masengeli’s actions, stating that his noncompliance sets a poor example for police officers, who are expected to consistently uphold the law.
