Slain Wells Fargo Manager’s Gun Recovered in Siaya Shootout
The firearm belonging to slain Wells Fargo manager Willis Onyango Ayieko was recovered on Wednesday following a police operation near Siaya Town. Ayieko, a licensed firearm holder, had been robbed of the pistol, which contained 14 rounds of ammunition. The gun was found in the possession of a woman, who was arrested during the shootout.
According to police, the woman was with another person suspected to be her boyfriend, who is believed to be the main suspect in Ayieko’s murder. The suspect managed to escape with bullet injuries, and police are actively searching for him. Authorities have requested that any medical facility treating a wounded individual in the area report to law enforcement. Following the shootout, officers established roadblocks around Siaya Town to prevent the suspect's escape.
This was the second arrest connected to the case, following a prior arrest on Monday in Dandora, Nairobi. Investigations revealed that the Dandora suspect had rented a house using stolen funds. He allegedly used Ayieko’s mobile phone to withdraw money from an M-Pesa agent. Police identified the suspect as an ex-convict from Khwisero.
An autopsy report conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor confirmed that Ayieko died from severe head trauma, leading to brain hemorrhage. His body was discovered days after the incident, swollen and floating in a stream in Siaya County. The autopsy was carried out at Lee Funeral Home, with the participation of the family’s pathologist, Prof. Emily Rogena, along with Siaya Governor James Orengo, MPs Sam Atandi and Elisha Odhiambo, and Martin Nyuguto from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations' homicide unit.
