PLO Lumumba Questions Hidden Influence Behind Deputy President’s Impeachment.

Prof. PLO Lumumba has commented on the swift impeachment process of the Deputy President, suggesting it was driven by a powerful influence that could only come from the Head of State. Despite President Ruto’s silence, Lumumba believes the manner in which the impeachment unfolded points to his involvement from the upper ranks of the Executive.

He further noted the prompt issuance of the gazette notice and the rushed public participation, which he claims deviated from Parliament’s usual procedures, reinforcing the Deputy President’s imminent removal.Lumumba also referenced statements made by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss prior to the impeachment, which he said sealed Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's fate.

On Tuesday night, Gachagua was impeached with 282 MPs voting in favor of the motion, 44 opposing, and one abstaining. The matter now in the Senate for further review before a final decision is made.
