Tana River Governor Arrest Sparks Condemnation from Council of Governors
What's Your Reaction?
Tana River Governor Dhadho Godhana was arrested on Friday night after failing to respond to summons related to the ongoing clashes in Tana River County, which have resulted in multiple fatalities. The Council of Governors (CoG) has criticized the arrest, arguing it violates the Governor’s rights and undermines his office.
Ahmed Abdullahi, the Wajir Governor and CoG chair, emphasized that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) should have followed formal procedures when seeking the Governor’s attendance. He noted that such requests should be communicated officially to maintain adherence to established protocols, as Governors are elected leaders whose roles demand respect and procedural handling.
Abdullahi further asserted that the County Commanders’ offices, which operate under the National Government, provide a more appropriate avenue for engaging Governors. He stressed that these channels ensure the integrity of governance structures while facilitating cooperation between county and national authorities.
The CoG reaffirmed its commitment to fostering collaboration between counties and national security agencies. It announced plans to engage with the Ministry of Interior to develop frameworks that prevent similar situations in the future and promote better coordination in addressing security concerns.
