President Advocates for Public-Private Partnerships to Boost Geothermal Energy and Economic Growth
While presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony of the 35MW Orpower 22 Geothermal Power Plant in Menengai, Nakuru County, the President emphasized the importance of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in financing development projects without increasing taxes or loans. He noted that PPPs have previously enabled the successful implementation of key projects in the country.
The President highlighted the government’s collaboration with the private sector to tap into Kenya’s geothermal potential, stressing the importance of achieving the national target of a 100% clean energy grid by 2030. He encouraged investors to explore the untapped geothermal resources, pointing out that only 10% of the country's geothermal potential has been harnessed so far.
Additionally, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reducing electricity costs to enhance economic efficiency and boost industrial competitiveness.
