Dr. Deborah Barasa Launches Social Health Authority Program from Eldoret .
During the official launch of the Social Health Authority (SHA) program in Eldoret, Dr. Deborah Barasa announced that once registered with SHA, Kenyans will have access to free medication at lower public health facilities. She encouraged citizens to register for the newly launched Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), which is designed to provide coverage for all Kenyans at an affordable rate. The program will cover treatments for chronic conditions such as cancer and diabetes, offering crucial support for families dealing with these diseases.
However, many individuals who sought treatment after the program's initiation reported not receiving coverage, prompting calls for the government to enhance public education and expedite the implementation logistics. The SHA aims to address the gaps left by the long-standing National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
