National Treasury Limits Official Cars to Cut Government Transport Costs

The National Treasury has introduced new regulations limiting Cabinet Secretaries and governors to two official vehicles. Additionally, board members of parastatals will now be required to use their personal vehicles and claim reimbursement for official travel. The directive also mandates senior officials at both national and county levels to share government vehicles, moving away from the current practice of unrestricted access to multiple cars. These changes aim to curb rising transport costs, which surged from Ksh 8.6 billion in 2021 to Ksh 14.3 billion in 2023, and ensure more efficient management of public resources.
