Orengo Urges President Ruto to Resign Amid Public Dissatisfaction

Siaya Governor James Orengo has called for President William Ruto to resign, citing widespread public dissatisfaction with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Orengo argued that if President Ruto were attuned to the public's sentiments, he would step down, as Kenyans are disillusioned with the current leadership.

"If Ruto was listening to the mood of Kenyans, he would resign. There is too much anger against the Kenya Kwanza administration. If he is truly a Christian, he should step down along with his entire government," Orengo said on Sunday in Bondo.''The seasoned attorney stated.

Orengo criticized the entire Kenya Kwanza government, claiming it has failed and angered Kenyans, and suggested that international institutions could help facilitate a transition to a new government. He referred to the processes used in 2002 and 2007 as examples of how such a transition could be managed.

Orengo's comments followed the cancellation of the unpopular 2024 Finance Bill after nationwide protests. President Ruto warned that without the Bill, Kenya would have to resort to borrowing to sustain its expenditures. Ruto stated that the rejection of the Bill means the country has regressed by two years and will need to borrow at least Ksh.1.2 trillion this year to keep the government operational.

The 2024 Finance Bill, which aimed to raise an additional Ksh.346.7 billion for the 2024/25 budget through increased taxation, was a key component of Ruto’s economic strategy.
