Nairobi County Urges Families to Identify Unclaimed Bodies at Nairobi funeral home Amidist Capacity Crisis.

Nairobi County’s  has called on kenyans who have lost contact with their loved ones or are unsure of their whereabouts to visit the Nairobi Funeral Home to verify if their relatives are among the unclaimed bodies currently held there.

The county revealed that the funeral home has exceeded its capacity, urging the public to assist in identifying the deceased. On September 20, the county sought court approval for the disposal of 107 unclaimed bodies. However, on October 2, the court declined the request, citing the need to serve the Attorney General and allow time for a response due to concerns about extra-judicial killings. This legal delay has left the facility struggling to accommodate more bodies.

In response to the county’s call, several human rights organizations have raised objections. They argue that many families lost relatives during protests against the Finance Bill 2024 and fear this process might be used to obscure efforts to identify missing individuals.
