The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is calling for swift justice following the abduction and assault of a blogger in Mombasa. The 24-year-old blogger was forcibly taken from his Bamburi home by a group of not less than 20 men, where he was physically assaulted, and sexually violated before being abandoned at a dumpsite. The victim claims he was targeted due to his criticism of the Mombasa County government.
In a statement, LSK President Faith Odhiambo condemned the attack, describing it as a gross violation of human rights and a direct assault on the freedom of expression. The LSK has urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to take immediate action against those responsible. Several other advocacy groups, including ICJ Kenya, UTU WETU Trust, BAKE, and the Wangu Kanja Foundation, have also spoken out against the incident, demanding accountability for the violence.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has distanced himself from the attack, expressing shock at the allegations and denying involvement. His CEC for Lands, Mohamed Hussein, has been arrested in connection with the crime.
The LSK and other groups are pushing for urgent legal action to ensure justice for the victim and to uphold the rights of free speech and expression in Kenya.
