Train Derails in Tanzania's Kigoma Region

A train traveling through Tanzania's Kigoma Region derailed and overturned between Kazuramimba and Uvinza stations, according to Jamila Mbarouk, the Head of Communication for the Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC). The incident, which took place on Tuesday night, resulted in the derailment of six carriages, creating a challenging situation for both passengers and emergency responders.
The TRC, in coordination with Kigoma regional health authorities, acted swiftly to ensure the injured were transported to Uvinza District Hospital for immediate medical attention. Mbarouk confirmed that of the 571 passengers aboard, many have since been treated and discharged, with only eight individuals remaining under care. An additional five passengers, whose conditions required specialized treatment, were transferred to Maweni Regional Referral Hospital. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported.
Despite the accident, the train continued its journey toward Tabora, Dodoma, Morogoro, Coast, and Dar es Salaam, with TRC personnel providing ongoing assistance to those affected by the incident. The government's commitment to ensuring all injured passengers receive the necessary medical care and support, enabling them to resume their daily activities as soon as possible.
