Former President Donald Trump was swiftly moved to safety on Sunday following what the FBI described as an attempted assassination at his West Palm Beach golf course in Florida. This incident comes nearly two months after a shooting at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, which left the former president injured and a supporter dead.

The suspect, identified by U.S. media as Ryan Routh, was first noticed by Secret Service agents conducting routine security sweeps on the course. According to police, agents typically check one hole ahead of Trump while he plays. During the sweep, agents spotted the muzzle of a rifle, initially reported to be an AK-47-style weapon by County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, protruding from the surrounding shrubbery.

As Trump was about to approach, an agent confronted the gunman, who fled as agents opened fire, discharging four to five rounds. The suspect dropped his rifle and fled in a vehicle, leaving behind two knapsacks, a scope, and a GoPro camera. A witness photographed the man fleeing in a black Nissan, which was later provided to authorities. The suspect was apprehended driving north on the I-95 highway after crossing into Martin County, approximately 61 kilometers from Trump’s golf course
