ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has made it clear that their is division in the party after disclosing that he was not aware President William Ruto will be nominating prominent ODM members to his Cabinet.

Speaking during a morning show in a local televison Sifuna revelaled in their meeting with Raila Odinga on 9th July, Raila only mentioned his willingness to engage in dialogue with President Ruto.

“ODM has not joined the government. As the Secretary General of ODM, I participate in all party organs and speak on behalf of all those entities,” he stated in an interview with Citizen TV. “There has been much speculation about yesterday’s events, but the reality is that none of the ODM organs I am part of decided to join the Ruto government.”he added

As the secretary General the Nairobi Senator now wants the four Cabinet nominees to resign from their party positions before being  vetted by Parliament.

''I expect the resignation of ODM members who were nominated by President Ruto to join his Cabinet before they go for vetting. There is no way Raila would present only male nominees for the CS position; it was not his decision.”Sifuna stated.

Sifuna also revealed that his last understanding of the dialogue was that Raila sought a national conversation, and he criticized the media for alleging that he failed to communicate clearly as the ODM Secretary General.

“I have communicated clearly as SG of ODM. After KICC, Raila convened a central committee meeting because that is his usual approach when we haven’t met before an event,” Sifuna explained, emphasizing his unawareness of other ODM leaders’ negotiations to join Ruto’s Cabinet.

The President named the new cabinet secretaries during the State of the Nation address at State House, Nairobi, and Mbadi has been a long ally of Opposition chief Raila Odinga as Cabinet Secretary for Treasury. 

Mbadi currently serves ODM chairman .

The president also nominated National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi as his choice for the position of CS in the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum 

Opiyo Wandayi is the Member of parliament of Ugunja  Constituency and he is serving his third term in parliament having been first elected in 2013 on the ODM ticket.

Former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is the Mining CS nominee,Joho has and is still a stauch supporter of oppostion leader Raila Odinga.

Former Kakamega gorvernor Wycliffe Oparanya has beewn nominated to head the Cooperatives and MSME Development Ministry.
