President William Ruto addressed public concerns regarding misconduct and lavish lifestyles among some leaders in the current regime, sentiments that have sparked anti-government protests.
Speaking at an X Space Engagement Forum, Ruto responded to a participant's question about nominated Senator Karen Nyamu, known for frequent controversial media coverage. The participant questioned why Nyamu remained in public office despite her behavior.
Ruto acknowledged these concerns, stating, "I agree that some of our officials are arrogant, some of them speak out of turn, and some display obnoxious opulence, which angers the public." He revealed personal interventions, saying, "Sometimes I call some of those people and give them a piece of my mind. Even Nyamu, I have had an occasion to sit her down and tell her that she needs to change what she is doing."
The President explained that he sees his role not only as head of state but also as a mentor to young leaders like Nyamu. "When you are in my position, you are also a father figure," he said. "Some of these young people get excited about many things and sometimes do the wrong things."
Ruto emphasized his approach to leadership, focusing on guidance rather than immediate removal from office. He emphasized the need for young leaders to adopt responsible behavior and hinted at impending changes in leadership.
Since assuming office in 2022, Senator Karen Nyamu has repeatedly made headlines for controversial incidents, including a public altercation at a party in Dubai, leading to her summoning by the UDA party leadership.
