President William Ruto unveiled a series of austerity measures aimed at realigning the country's budget in light of the withdrawn Finance Bill, 2024. Speaking from State House in Nairobi, Ruto disclosed plans to dissolve 47 government bodies with overlapping functions, integrating their staff into parent ministries. This move is expected to cut down on operational costs significantly.

Additionally, Ruto announced the suspension of new appointments for Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) and a 50% reduction in executive advisers. He outlined the removal of budget allocations for the First Lady, Deputy President's spouse, and the Prime Cabinet Secretary, along with cutting confidential budgets across various government offices, including his own. Renovation budgets across government entities will also see a 50% reduction.

Furthermore, Ruto declared a strict retirement policy, mandating public servants to retire at age 60 without extensions to their service. These measures are part of Ruto's strategy to streamline government spending and optimize fiscal resources in response to current economic challenges.

The Head of State announced a halt on new government vehicle purchases for a year, with exceptions only for security agencies. He also outlined plans to develop a new framework for public officers' transportation.

Additionally, he suspended all non-essential travel by State and public officers and prohibited their participation in harambees. The Attorney General was instructed to draft legislation for structured and transparent contributions to public, charitable, and philanthropic causes.

Regarding earlier speculation about a Cabinet reshuffle, the President hinted at forthcoming government changes to complement these austerity measures.
