The National Assembly’s leadership has begun its retreat in Naivasha, which will run from Monday through Wednesday, focusing on establishing strategic goals for the Assembly's 2024 term. The gathering aims to foster collaboration between parliamentary leaders and energy sector stakeholders while identifying key legislative priorities.
Among the participants are Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, the Principal Secretary for Energy, and Kenya Power CEO Joseph Siror. The discussions are expected to address critical issues, including rising energy costs and power supply challenges. Speaker Moses Wetang’ula stressed the need for bipartisan cooperation, underscoring the retreat’s importance in aligning leadership on legislative priorities and tackling challenges hindering parliamentary progress.
Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah acknowledged the strides made since the Thirteenth Parliament's inauguration on September 8, 2022. He also emphasized the value of continuous capacity-building initiatives in empowering members to effectively perform their roles. The retreat enhance internal collaboration, advance the legislative agenda, and align the Assembly's activities with national priorities.
