LSK Files Lawsuit Demanding Extended Notice and DNA Sampling for Unclaimed Bodies

What's Your Reaction?

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has filed a lawsuit against the Nairobi City County government, Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin, Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa, Inspector-General of Police, and Attorney-General Dorcas Oduor. The LSK is seeking a court order to require the county government to issue a 120-day notice period for the identification and retrieval of unclaimed bodies. Additionally, they are demanding that mandatory DNA testing be performed before any unclaimed bodies are disposed of.
Following recent protests related to the 2024 finance bill, many families have lost loved ones. The LSK argues that it is crucial to respect human lives and allow families sufficient time to find their relatives before the Nairobi City County government moves forward with their disposal.
