Machakos Health Workers Announce Strike Over Unresolved Issues

Residents of Machakos County, along with other counties that rely on its healthcare facilities, may soon face challenges accessing medical services. This follows the announcement by doctors and clinicians that they plan to go on strike starting next Week Wednesday.

The healthcare workers had previously issued a strike notice, stating that the county government has yet to address key issues they've been advocating for. These include the reclassification and promotion of specialists across all levels, the implementation of a return-to-work agreement, and the provision of a comprehensive medical insurance plan for all health staff before the transition to the Social Health Authority (SHA).

The workers expressed frustration over two years of fruitless negotiations with the county regarding their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), saying they can no longer continue fighting for their rights without results. Additionally, they highlighted the use of personal resources to tackle public health challenges within communities. They criticized the county for not providing sufficient help to support these initiatives.
