John Mbadi Welcomed as a Suba Elder

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi received a hero’s welcome yesterday, August 29, 2024,in his home constituency of Suba South, which he has been a MP for 15 years.In a ceremony attended by President William Ruto, Mbadi was symbolically armed with a shield and spear, marking his installation as a Suba elder. The event highlighted Mbadi’s deep roots in the region and his rising stature within the national leadership.

However, Mbadi's new role is far from easy. He steps into office at a critical time when the government is grappling with severe budget constraints following the collapse of the Finance Bill, 2024. The failed bill has left the country in a precarious financial state, with mounting pending bills and urgent debt repayments looming large.With the Finance Bill's failure seen as a significant setback for President Ruto, leaders from the Nyanza region urged the President to consider Mbadi's insights and the economy of the ountry will revive.

Undeterred, the Treasury CS has already begun addressing the concerns of his constituents, emphasizing the need for targeted development in neglected areas of the Nyanza region. With solid backing from his home base and a close association with Raila Odinga, Mbadi now faces the immense responsibility of shaping Kenya’s economic trajectory. His approach will be crucial in either stabilizing or further straining the nation’s economic framework.
