High Court Suspends Senate’s Decision on Rigathi Gachagua's Impeachment
On Friday, October 18, 2024, Justice Chacha Mwita ruled that Rigathi Gachagua’s petition brought forth significant legal and public interest issues. Consequently, the High Court has halted the Senate’s decision to approve Gachagua's impeachment, which was passed on Thursday, October 17.
The judge granted a conservatory order, pausing the enforcement of the impeachment, including the installation of a successor, until October 24, 2024, when the case will be mentioned in court. Additionally, Justice Mwita instructed the Chief Justice to establish a bench to preside over the petition.
