What You Need to Know About Today's Katiba Day Protest

As Kenya marks 14 years after promulgation of the new constitrution ,asection of Kenyan human rights activists and youths are expected to hold a fresh street countrywide protest today to commemorate 14 years of the constitution.

This seems as a continuation of the anti government demonstartions that kicked off in June 2024.

Led by the chairperson of the People’s Assembly Booker Omolo,they revealed plans of the peaceful protests during a press briefing on August 26, 2024.

The protests are aimed at addressing a range of issues including, extrajudicial killing,cases of abduction, forced disappearing, corruption,  economic hardship and high unemployment among the youth.

The group is also demanding justice, democracy and freedom under President Willliam Ruto’s administration and his immediate resignation.

“August 27, 2024, Katiba Day will not just be a day of commemoration it will be a day, will be a day of mass action we are announcing a general strict protest against the tyranny of William Ruto and a demand for his immediate resignation we will not rest until justice is done,” Booker Omolo said.
