Ruto Welcomes New Cabinet Leaders: A Pledge to Strengthen Governance and Regional Development
In a significant move to bolster Kenya's governance and regional representation, President William Ruto witnessed the swearing-in of Beatrice Askul Moe as the new Cabinet Secretary for East Africa Community and Regional Development, alongside Dorcas Oduor as the new Attorney General. This ceremony followed the National Assembly's approval of their nominations, which were vetted on Friday, August 9.
The approval by Members of Parliament (MPs) was based on the Committee on Appointments report, which declared the two nominees suitable for their respective roles. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, President Ruto assured the newly appointed officials of his full support as they embark on their mandates.
President Ruto emphasized the importance of the Attorney General's office, urging Dorcas Oduor to ensure that it operates smoothly, fulfills its legal obligations, and firmly establishes its role in serving the nation. He highlighted the need for the AG’s office to extend its reach across all regions, providing timely access to justice and legal counsel that safeguards the interests of the country.
Ruto further noted the importance of the Attorney General’s office in collaborating with other ministries and stakeholders, ensuring that the government receives strong and prompt representation, particularly in protecting public interest and the public good.
For Beatrice Askul Moe, who now heads the East Africa Community and Regional Development docket, Ruto urged a commitment to ensuring that Kenya is fairly represented in the East African Community. He encouraged her to engage with lawmakers on measures that would advance the nation's interests in regional integration and development.
During her vetting, Dorcas Oduor highlighted her extensive experience, which spans over three decades in various legal capacities. She expressed confidence in her ability to fulfill the responsibilities of Attorney General, citing her prior roles at the State Law Office and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, where she served as the Deputy Director.
Similarly, Beatrice Askul Moe was deemed an excellent fit for the EAC Affairs docket due to her vast experience in public service.As these new leaders assume their roles, the nation anticipates their contributions to enhancing governance, legal services, and regional development, aligning with Kenya's broader vision for progress and prosperity.
