Police Officers Released on Bond After Alleged Role in Murder Suspect's Escape

Five police officers who were apprehended in connection with the escape of Collins Jumaisi, a murder suspect, have been released on bond. The officers—Ronald Babo, Evans Kipkirui, Mollent Achieng, Zachary Nyabuto, and Gerald Mutuku—were each granted a bond of Sh200,000.

The officers appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi on Wednesday, August 21, and were granted bond the following day. The prosecution had initially sought to have the officers detained for 14 days to facilitate further investigations. However, Magistrate Nanzushi ruled that there were no compelling reasons to justify their continued detention.

Although the officers have been released, the court imposed specific conditions on them. They are required to report to the investigating officer twice a week as the investigation continues.

The Office of The Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) identified the five officers as persons of interest in the case involving the escape of Jumaisi and 12 other suspects. The investigation into how the escape occurred and the potential involvement of the officers remains ongoing.

This case has attracted significant public interest, raising questions about the accountability and conduct of law enforcement officers.
