Nursing Council of Kenya Blacklists Unapproved Institutions

In a statement released on Wednesday, September 18, the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) announced the blacklisting of four institutions offering nursing courses without its approval. The council emphasized its sole authority to accredit nursing and midwifery training programs in Kenya. Any program offered without NCK's approval is deemed unrecognized and fails to meet the required professional standards.

To safeguard students and parents from enrolling in unaccredited institutions, the NCK urged them to verify the accreditation status of any nursing or midwifery program. The council also issued a stern warning to institutions operating without approval, stating that they would face legal consequences.

Section 21 of the Nurses and Midwives Act CAP 257 Laws of Kenya outlines the penalties for individuals conducting nursing training courses without NCK's authorization. Upon conviction, offenders face a fine of up to five hundred thousand shillings, imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or both.

The training colleges that have been closed include Northlands International Medical Training College, Tabaka School of Health Sciences in Mosocho, Topmax Training College, and  Global Medical Training College.
