Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse Praises Senate’s Decision to Impeach Gachagua
Kibwezi West MP, Mwengi Mutuse, who initiated the motion to impeach Rigathi Gachagua, expressed satisfaction with the Senate's decision to remove the Deputy President from office. Mutuse emphasized that the impeachment serves as a warning to all leaders, encouraging them to self-regulate and uphold constitutional values in their duties. He also expressed pride in being the first MP to introduce a motion that has significantly impacted Kenya's political landscape.
To support the case, Mutuse presented extensive documentation, arguing that Gachagua was unfit to continue in office. The motion sparked intense debate within the National Assembly, where 282 members voted in favor of the impeachment before forwarding it to the Senate for a final decision. The Senate upheld the motion, confirming Gachagua’s removal.
Mutuse, a first-term MP, reflected on his clashes with Gachagua’s legal team during cross-examinations, stating that the outcome was a victory for all Kenyans.
