Since 2022, Kenya has witnessed a series of seismic events, marking the third earthquake in recent years to shake Nairobi and its surrounding areas. The most recent quake, reported on Tuesday night, stirred concerns about potential structural damage and safety risks among residents.

Reports indicated aftershocks were felt in various locations including Kitengela, Ruaka, and Westlands, with tremors extending to Isinya, Kajiado, Kirinyaga, Kisii, Nyeri, and Muranga counties. Initial data from Volcano Search, a platform specializing in lithosphere information, pinpointed the quake's genesis around 8:31 p.m., though specifics regarding intensity and depth awaited official confirmation. "Residents are urged to remain cautious and await updates from national or international seismological agencies for more precise information," advised experts following the event.

The earthquake, measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale, struck approximately 38 km east of Nairobi. The Earthquake Monitor corroborated the seismic activity, detailing a magnitude of 4.6 and an epicenter located 87 kilometers from Nairobi at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers. This shallow depth contributed to heightened tremors compared to deeper quakes of similar intensity near the epicenter. "We are monitoring preliminary reports of seismic tremors in or near Nairobi," stated the Earthquake Monitor. "Residents should stay informed through reliable sources as the situation unfolds."

Kenya's recent seismic history underscores a growing awareness of earthquake preparedness and response. With ongoing updates expected, residents are advised to stay vigilant and heed guidance from authoritative sources to ensure their safety amidst seismic activities.
