Duale Challenges Mungatana on Gachagua Censure Motion

Immediately after Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana submitted a censure motion targeting Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Environment CS Aden Duale responded.

In his statement, Duale explained that Mungatana lacks the authority to initiate an impeachment process, emphasizing that only the National Assembly has the power to do so. He cited Article 150 of the Constitution, which stipulates that any impeachment motion against the Deputy President must be introduced through the National Assembly.

Reacting to Duale’s remarks, Mungatana clarified that his submission was not an impeachment motion but a censure motion. He explained that while impeachment seeks to remove a public official from office, a censure motion is simply a formal expression of disapproval concerning a public official's behavior and does not lead to their removal.
