Mt Kenya East MPs Endorse Kithure Kindiki as Key Liaison Amidst Regional Political Shifts.

Mt Kenya has traditionally voted as a unified bloc, establishing itself as the largest vote base in the country. However, a new political divide within the region poses a threat to this cohesion, potentially diminishing its influence on national politics. The recent shift in Mt Kenya East’s political alignment may impact the overall numerical advantage of the broader Mt Kenya region.

In a recent development, Members of Parliament from Mt Kenya East have officially endorsed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as their main representative to the government. This endorsement was made during a meeting on Monday, where leaders from Meru, Tharaka Nithi, and Embu Counties convened at an Embu hotel to discuss the region’s future in light of recent political changes.

The Mt Kenya East leaders have chosen to distance themselves from the larger Mt Kenya or Central Kenya bloc, asserting their independence to pursue their political interests through their newly appointed leader, Kithure Kindiki. They stress the importance of their vote basket in presidential elections and expect to see increased development in their region.

Attendees at the meeting included Embu Senator Alexander Mudigi, George Murugara (Tharaka), John Paul Mwirigi (Igembe South), Geofrey Ruku (Mbeere North), John Mutunga (Tigania West), Dan Karitho (Igembe Central), Japhet Kareke Mbiuki (Maara), Elizabeth Karambu Kailemia (Meru Women Representative), MP Mpuru Aburi (Tigania East), Rindikiri, and Mugambi Murwithania (Buuri).
