Good News For Rwanda AS Construction Of Cannabis Plant In Rwanda Gets To 70%
Rwand has joined DR Congo, Malwai, Zimbabwe and Uganda as the only country's in Africa with Canabbis production plants.
King Kong Organics (KKOG) Rwanda, a subsidiary of the American corporation KKOG Global, is developing the facility and according to their reports by September 2024, the construction of a cannabis production plant in Rwanda’s northern district of Musanze is expected to be complete.
The company, which is one of the largest licensed cannabis producers in Africa with operations in DR Congo, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Uganda, secured a five-year contract in March 2024 to produce cannabis in Rwanda, supported by President Paul Kagame.
The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) authorized the cultivation of cannabis for medicinal purposes, including extraction and export of various medicinal products.
The plant is nearly 70 percent complete and is expected to be finished by the first week of September.
Rwanda legalized medical marijuana, though the use and sale of recreational cannabis remain prohibited.
In 2021, Rwanda legalised medical marijuana. However, the use and sale of recreational cannabis remain outlawed. Cannabis plants grow in four to six months and KKOG seeks to produce at least 5,000 kilograms of marijuana per hectare.
