Gilbert Masengeli says , Mugambi’s Security Detail was withdrawn for training.

Concerns have arisen after the security detail for Justice Lawrence Mugambi was withdrawn over the weekend, drawing criticism from the public, the judiciary, and other sectors. Chief Justice Martha Koome confirmed that Mugambi's security officers were disarmed and removed from duty over the weekend.

This occurred shortly after Justice Mugambi sentenced acting Inspector General of Police, Gilbert Masengeli, to six months in prison for contempt of court on Friday. Masengeli was ordered to report to the commissioner general of prisons, and if he fails to comply, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior has been directed to ensure his imprisonment.

Responding to the criticism on Monday, IG Masengeli stated that the reassignment of the two officers was for the purpose of attending VIP security training. He assured the public that necessary arrangements were made to maintain Mugambi's security.

Masengeli also clarified that, according to the law, only the President, Deputy President, and a retired President are entitled to personal security. Other individuals are granted security based on criteria outlined in NPS policies and determined by the Inspector General.He emphasized that the NPS remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
